We’ve been trying to get pregnant without success. What should we do?

At Fertility Solutions™, we know that conceiving a child is an important, life-changing event. Try not to get discouraged! The first step is to visit a professional, either your OBGYN or a fertility specialist, to evaluate the potential medical factors and lifestyle factors that are affecting your fertility. Sometimes, lifestyle changes may be enough to help you become pregnant. Other times it can be more difficult and fertility treatments may be necessary. Should I go to my OBGYN first, or straight to a fertility specialist?

If you are under the age of 35, are otherwise healthy and have been trying to get pregnant naturally for less than 1 year, visiting your OBGYN for a checkup is an excellent first step. However, if you have been trying to conceive for more than 1 year without success or if you are over the age of 35, it is generally recommended that you meet with a fertility specialist to explore your options.

When should I see a fertility specialist?

A visit to a fertility specialist is generally recommended when:

  • Women under 35 have been trying to conceive for 1 year without success.
  • Women over 35 have been trying to conceive for more than 6 months.
  • Medical complications are a concern such as prior miscarriages, endometriosis, PCOS and low sperm count.

What happens at the first appointment? How long will it last? What should I bring with me?

At the first appointment, one of our board-certified physicians will provide a personalized consultation about your fertility goals. After filling out some forms and a basic questionnaire, our physicians will evaluate your medical history, pinpoint potential fertility obstacles and recommend the next steps for your fertility care. The consultation will last about 1 hour. Bring a valid ID and medical insurance card. If anything else is needed our staff will inform you when you make the appointment. Arranging to have your relevant medical records forwarded prior to your visit would be helpful as well.

Do both of us need to be present at the first appointment (husband/wife/partner)?

Conception is dependent on the male and female partner therefore it is helpful if both parties are present, however it is not required. We understand how busy everyone is.

Do I need a referral?

The majority of our patients do not need a referral. Simply call us at toll-free 1-877-813-0159 to schedule a consultation at any of our 5 convenient New England locations. With certain insurance plans, a patient may need to acquire a referral from their primary care physician. We will advise you accordingly when you schedule your appointment.

Do I need to bring any medical forms or documentation to my appointment?

Patients will need to bring a valid ID and their medical insurance card to each appointment. If this is your first visit, it is also helpful to be familiar with your family’s reproductive history, and to have a list of questions ready to discuss with your specialist. Our staff will instruct you how to arrange to have relevant medical records forwarded to us.

How do I request my medical records?

If you need to request medical records, call your physician’s office and ask them to mail you a copy. We recommend giving yourself at least 2 weeks to receive the documents. Although it is not the case with every doctor’s office, some practices allow you to pick up your medical records in person as well.

What hours are you open? Do you have early/late or weekend appointments?

At Fertility Solutions™ visits are scheduled on an appointment-by-appointment basis. This allows us to provide flexible and convenient access to all 5 of our New England locations. I’m not sure I can afford fertility care. Is patient financing available?

Yes, we work with four financing programs, Springstone, WINFertility, CapexMD and EMD Serono. Additionally, we offer a variety of innovative shared-risk fertility treatment plans and special promotions to make your fertility care more affordable.

What health insurance do you accept?

We accept virtually all major insurance carriers. For your convenience, we have listed some of the more popular plans below:

How much does the first consultation cost?

If not covered by insurance, the first consultation will cost $300.

Do you specialize in male and female fertility?

Yes, when trying to conceive both the male and female play a role in the process. We evaluate both sides of the equation, providing comprehensive diagnosis and treatment services for male and female infertility.

Does your center welcome the LGBT community?
